Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested two persons while smuggling ganja to Bhubaneswar and seized the contraband on Monday.
Following reliable information about smuggling of ganja, a special team on the direction of the IIC of Laxmisagar police station intercepted a car on Oscar City road. During checking of the car, the police team found ganja weighing over 41 kg.
The police have seized the contraband, two mobile phones, a voter I-card and the car from the possession of two persons going in the vehicle. The arrested persons were identified as Suresh Chandra Nayak of Angul and Biswambar Pradhan of Kandhamal. Two other persons travelling in the car managed to escape.
During questioning, the duo told the police that they have been regularly carrying ganja from Kandhamal to Bhubaneswar. They further said they were carrying out the illegal trade with the help of some ganja traders in Bhubaneswar to earn more profit.
The police have registered a case against the two persons under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and forwarded the arrested persons to the court. A manhunt has been launched to trace the absconding ganja smugglers.
