2 Brothers Drown In Pond In Odisha’s Sundargarh; Teen Goes Missing In Kathajodi In Cuttack

Sundargarh: In a tragic incident, two brothers died after they drowned while taking bath in a pond in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

As per information, the incident took place at Jhupurunga village under Gopalpur panchayat under the jurisdiction of Hemgiri police station in the district. The deceased have been identified as Chitta Makar and Debasish Makar of the village.

Locals said younger brother, Debasish, slipped into deep water while bathing in the pond on Friday afternoon. Seeing him struggle, Chitta, who was standing on the bank, immediately jumped in to rescue him but tragically drowned as well.

On being informed, fire services personnel rushed to the site and carried out a search operation and recovered Debasish’s body late Friday night, while Chitta’s body was recovered early on Saturday.

Police have registered an unnatural death case at Hemgiri police station. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

In another similar incident, a 16-year-old boy went missing in Kathajodi river in Cuttack on Friday.
He has been identified as Shriyanshu Das from Madhuban in Kendrapada district. He was studying in Class 10 in DAV Public School, CDA-6.

Sources said the boy was bathing in Kathajodi river at Balighat when he slipped into deep water and went missing. Unable to locate him, locals informed Bidanasi Fire Service personnel who arrived at the spot and promptly started search operations.

The boy was still untraceable till reports last came in. The search operations are still ongoing, sources said.
