Cuttack: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Prasanna Samantaray, an OAS officer serving as Tehsildar of Kantapara in Cuttack district, on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Following extensive searches conducted at multiple properties linked to Samantaray, the anti-corruption agency determined that he was in possession of significant unexplained wealth. These include two multi-storey buildings at Saheed Nagar and Kesara and seven high-value plots
in Bhubaneswar. Cash amounting to Rs 2.17 lakh was also seized during the raids conducted at seven locations in Cuttack, Khurda (Bhubaneswar), Puri, and Kendrapada districts on Wednesday.
The OAS officer was arrested after he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for these possessions during the investigation, a Vigilance release said.
Samantaray began his career as Local Fund Auditor (LFA) in 2000 with initial salary of Rs 5,130. He continued till 09.06.2016 as LFA in Audit Office, Balasore. On 10.06.2016, he was promoted to the rank of ORS and posted as Zone Officer, Salandi Lift Canal Project, Soro. From the year 2017 to 2022, he worked as Additional Tehsildar, Satyabadi, Puri and Tangi-Choudwar, Cuttack. Again in October, 2022, he was promoted to the rank of OAS and posted as Tehsildar in Balasore’s Remuna. He was transferred to Cuttack as Kantapara Tehsildar on 23.09.2025.
