Sundargarh: Masked miscreants allegedly opened fire on two youths from neighbouring Chhattisgarh on Biju Expressway near Kutra in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Friday, injuring them critically.
The injured have been identified as Bikram Tandon and Sunil Ratnakar from Raigarh in Chhattisgarh.
According to sources, our persons wearing masks intercepted the pick up van in which Tandon and Ratnakar were travelling to Rourkela around 4 am. The assailants fired several rounds at them before fleeing the scene.
While one among them sustained injuries in the chest, the other was hit in the neck. They were rushed to a nearby health facility by locals from where they were shifted to district headquarters hospital in Sundargarh.
Police soon reached the spot and began a probe. “Our team has started an investigation,” SDPO Himanshu Behera told the media.
Past enmity is suspected to be the reason behind the firing incident.
