New Delhi: Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and two others injured in a Kuki insurgent attack in Manipur’s Bishnupur district early on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as sub-inspector N Sarkar and head constable Arup Saini.
Inspector Jadav Das and constable Aftab Das, who were injured in the gunfire, have been admitted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal.
According to sources, a group of insurgents opened fire from a hillside in Naranseina village under Moirang police station, targeting a Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) camp there. The gunfire started at 12:30 am and continued till 2:15 am, Times Of India reported.
“The attack comes six days before the first anniversary of the start of the Manipur crisis and militants hiding in hills are likely to increase attacks in the coming days,” NDTV reported quoting police sources.
In another gunfight between two factions at Sinam Kom, situated on the boundary between Kangpkoi and Imphal districts in Manipur, a 33-year-old man has lost his life recently, Times of India reported.
The deceased Laishram Prem was a village volunteer and was missing, police told media. His body was found on Saturday.
