2 Dead, Dozens Injured In Season’s First Nor’wester In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The season’s first Nor’wester hit several parts of Odisha on Sunday afternoon.

Mayurbhanj was the worst affected district as heavy rain lashed a number of areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Two people were reportedly killed and 28 injured in rain-related incidents.

Strong winds an

d heavy rain damaged several houses in Kiapanapashi area. The storm uprooted electric poles and large trees, leaving 10 people injured.

So severe was the storm that an autorickshaw was blown away and thrown into a pond, and several thatched houses in Kanakada village under Karanjia block were damaged.

Powerful supply in affected areas was disrupted and some roads got blocked by uprooted trees.

People who suffered injuries have been taken to the Karanjia Sub-Divisional Hospital and Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued yellow warning for rain in Odisha for the next five days.
