Paralakhemundi: Two persons, including a 12-year-old girl, died and another turned critical allegedly due to asphyxiation caused by smoke from a power generator at a village in Odisha’s Gajapati district.
The incident took place at Betarasing village under the jurisdiction of RUdayagiri police station in the district. The deceased were identified as Ganesh Nayak (20) and Ambika Nayak (12).
According to sources, the victims were sleeping in a house after a marriage feast with a generator on outside their room. When they did not wake up on Saturday morning after repeated efforts, the family members took them to a hospital at Chandragiri where doctors pronounced Ganesh and Ambika dead.
Another girl, identified as Jhumuri Nayak (7), was in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment.
The smoke that emanated from the generator appeared to have caused the mishap, sources said.
A team from Chandragiri police outpost has rushed to the site and launched an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited.
