Berhampur: Police arrested two drug peddlers and seized over 28 gram of brown sugar from them at Khallikote University ground under Berhampur Town police station on Monday.
Speaking to media persons, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said on a tip-off that some drug peddlers were selling brown sugar in the university campus, the police conducted a raid and arrested the two persons.
The accused have been identified as Ranjan Das (35) and Rutu Ranjan Nimai (29) of Dhanamera Sahi under Bada Bazar police station in the city. The accused persons have confessed that they have been peddling drugs for some time, the SP said.
During the search, the police seized 28.95 gram of brown sugar, mobile phone, one polythene packet containing 10 small pieces of yellow colour paper, a spoon and Rs 4270 in cash from their possession. Further investigation is going on regarding the source of seized brown sugar, the SP added.
Berhampur Town police has registered a under sections 21 (b) of NDPS Act against the arrested persons who have several cases pending against them. While Ranjan is involved in 8 cases in Bada Bazar and Town police stations, Rutu has a case in Bada Bazar police station.
