Baleshwar: Two elderly women, sisters-in-law in relation, were killed after being hit by a train near Basta railway station in Odisha’s Baleshwar district on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Rukchand Marandi of Baunsatopha village and her sister-in-law from Parulia village.
According to preliminary information, the two women had gone to Basta market in the morning. While returning, they were crossing the railway tracks near Basta railway station when they were struck by a train heading towards Howrah.
Both women reportedly died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.
After receiving information, police reached the spot and recovered the bodies. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
