Bhubaneswar: Two electric double-decker buses are on the way from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar to run from Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.
The Capital Region Urban transport (CRUT), in a post in its official handle on X on Monday, said, “Double-decker electric buses are en route Bhubaneswar to be deployed before Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) in the capital city.”
The CRUT had opened a tender for double decker EV buses a few weeks ago, it added. The CRUt also released a picture of one such bus in the post.
The air-conditioned bus has paintings depicting Odisha’s history and art and culture including Konark Sun Temple wheel and Dhauli Stupa. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will be organised in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10.
The CRUT had earlier announced that it would procure 5 double-decker electric buses to be run in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri initially. If the buses run successfully, the fleet size would be expanded in future, it added.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra had also said it was part of the government’s initiatives to promote green energy and reduce carbon footprint.
While double-decker buses would improve the public transport, those would also bring down the traffic pressure in the three cities, he added.
