Balangir: Two employees were injured in an explosion in the ordnance factory at Badmal in Odisha’s Balangir district on Friday.
According to sources, the explosion took place while chemicals were being mixed to make bombs in Unit III of the plant. The two employees suffered critical burn injuries in the explosion.
They have been identified as senior technician DBW Gautam Mahanand and joint works manager Saroj Kumar Panda. They were rushed to the Ayudha Nirman Hospital at Badmal. Later, they were shifted to IGH at Rourkela as their condition deteriorated.
Both employees suffered 80% burn injuries on their bodies. While Gautam’s two eyes and one hand have been affected, Saroj sustained injuries on one eye and two hands, hospital sources said.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been ascertained.
