Jajpur: Two youths died after drowning while taking a bath in Brahmani river in Dharmasala area of Odisha’s Jajpur district on Wednesday.
The incident took place when the two friends were taking a bath in the river at Gokarneswar ghat under the jurisdiction of Dharmasala police station.
The deceased were identified as Gobinda Rana and Soumya Ranjan Maharana of a village in Jaraka area of the district. Gobinda was reportedly working as a salesman in a local cloth store in Jaraka.
The two had gone to the river in the afternoon for a bath when they accidentally slipped and went deep into the water.
Locals launched a rescue operation and fished out both from the river water and took them to a government hospital in Dharmasala. However, doctors declared them brought dead, police sources said.
On being informed, a police team from Dharmasala visited the hospital and launched a probe into the incident, while the bodies were sent for postmortem.
