Dhenkanal: Two friends, who had gone to celebrate the results of High School Certificate (HSC) examinations with others, were killed as a vehicle ran over them in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Sunday.
As per reports, Pruthviraj Sahu and Soumya Ranjan Kandi belonging to Bhuban area in the district, were among 30 students of Sri Aurobindo Vidhyapeeth at Surapratappur near Bhuban who had passed the HSC (Matriculation) examinations this year.
In order to celebrate their success in the examination, the students organised a get-together at a place near their village on the day. While returning after the celebration at around 2 pm, Pruthviraj and Soumya took shelter from scorching sun under a tree on roadside near Banadurga temple of Surapratappur under Bhuban police station.
Meanwhile, an SUV came in a high speed and ran over the two friends. The locals rushed the critically injured students to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Bhuban. But, both Soumya and Pruthviraj were declared brought dead, the sources said.
On being informed, the police went to the spot and started investigation to trace the vehicle that had run over the students.
