Angul: Two young girls were killed after a truck allegedly ran over a motorcycle in Odisha’s Angul district on Sunday.
According to sources, the girls, identified as Laxmipriya Ojha and Jangyaseni Maharana of Ranipada at Govindpur in Cuttack, were going on the motorcycle driven by Duryodhan Maharana to Dera under Banarpal police limits. When they reached Gotamara, a truck rammed into their bike.
As Laxmipriya and Jangyaseni fell down from the bike, the truck ran over them. While both of them died on the spot, Duryodhan escaped with injuries. The locals rushed him to local hospital and informed the police, the sources said.
A team from Banarapal polices station went to the spot and sent the bodies of the girls for post-mortem. They have registered a case of unnatural death and launched a manhunt to trace the truck driver who has been absconding. The deceased girls were cousins, the sources said.
