Bhubaneswar: Rail operation on Kharagpur–Bankura–Adra line halted after two goods trains collided at Onda railway station in Bankura early on Sunday.
While no casualties have been reported, the driver of one of the goods trains is said to have received minor injuries.
“Railway Maintainance train (BRN) shunting was going on at Ondagram station. Goods train (BCN) overshot the red signal and didn’t stop and derailed with the BRN maintenance train. Around 8 wagons derailed at around 4.05hrs. Restoration underway. The UP Mail line and Up loop line have already been restored at 7.45 hrs,” the ANI tweeted quoting CPRO, South Eastern Railway.
The Adra-Midnapore section was restored for normal train service within hours of the collision and the first train passed through at 8.35 am, reports added.
Meanwhile, the SER has cancelled 14 trains, diverted 3 and short terminated 2 due to the derailment of the goods train.
The accident came weeks after the horrific triple train collision, involving the Coromandel Express and two other trains, in Odisha’s Balasore that claimed 292 lives.
