Kochi: One person was arrested and another detained in connection with the death of a pregnant elephant, who died after eating a pineapple stuffed with firecrackers at Palakkad in Kerala.
Th arrested, P Wilson, is an employee of a private estate that grows cash crops and spices.
Forest Minister K Raju hinted at more arrests in this case.
The two men told police that they had set up a trap with bunch of fruits laden with crackers to scare off wild boars, which often destroy their farms.
The elephant rushed to the nearby Velliyar river after eating the fruit and died while standing inside the river after two days.
The incident has triggered nation-wide protests and condemnation by celebrities and Twitterati.
