Baripada: Two persons were arrested and police seized heroin valued at over Rs 17 lakh from them in Odisha’s Baripada during ongoing crackdown on illegal activities ahead of the twin elections in the state.
Police said the seizure was made during intensive patrolling in Debendrapur area of the town on Saturday night.
The police team conducting patrolling in the area intercepted an auto-rickshaw moving in a suspicious manner. On checking of the three-wheeler vehicle, the heroin was recovered.
Two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody, while the seized heroin weighed around 170.06 grams. The value of the heroin was estimated at over Rs 17 lakh, a police official said.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain possible involvement of others in the drugs racket and the nature of network.
