Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force of Odisha Police on Friday morning arrested two illegal firearm smugglers near Sikharghat bridge under Niali police limits in Cuttack district and seized 8 guns from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Suresh Kumar Das alias Kalia and Soumyaranjan Dalei of Jagatsinghpur. They are said to have links with big crime syndicates.
According to police sources, two 7 MM Pistol with Magazine, six country-made single-bore pistols and 20 country-made live ammunition were recovered from their possession.
A case under Section 25/27 Arms Act has been registered and the duo will be forwarded to the court, the sources added.
STF has alone seized 22 firearms, 54 live ammunition and arrested seven criminals during the ongoing drive against illegal arms in the last one year.
Illegal arms are mostly smuggled to the state from Bihar.
