2 Illegal Country Liquor Units Demolished During Excise Raid In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Continuing the crackdown on illicit liquor trade, Odisha Excise sleuths on Thursday conducted a raid on Salia Shai in Bhubaneswar and seized a huge quantity of illegally manufactured brew.

Following reliable information about trade of illegal country liquor, an Excise team carried out raid on two places in Nilachakta Nagar in Salia Sahi. The raid that was started at 5 am, continued for 4 hours till 9 am.

During the raid, two country liquor producing units were demolished. Besides, around 5,000 litre of pocha (fermented rice) were confiscated and destroyed. Raw material used for manufacturing country liquor were also seized.

The Excise team also arrested six persons associated with illegal trade while one person managed to escape from the police, sources said.

It may be noted that the Excise officials had conducted raid on a place in Salia Sahi and destroyed huge amount of country liquor on August 26.

In another raid two days before, the Commissionerate Police bulldozed four houses, where liquor was being manufactured illegally, and sized 11,500 litre of illicit distilled liquor and 50,000 litre of pocha in the slum.
