Bhubaneswar: A pick-up van hit a car on the busy National Highway 16 at Baramunda in Bhubaneswar on Friday evening, causing a series of accidents in which two persons were injured.
The injured were admitted to Capital hospital for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the pick-up van was over-speed
ing and rammed into a car, which collided with two other vehicles under the impact of the crash and was badly damaged from both ends. Among the other two vehicles was a government car belonging to Commerce and Road Transport Department.
“The car ahead of me suddenly stopped and my vehicle hit it, despite braking,” pick-up van driver Raju Das told a local news channel.
After being informed of the incident, Khandagiri police immediately rushed to the location. They cleared the resulting traffic jam, allowing vehicular movement to return to normal on the heavily congested stretch affected by the accidents.
The driver was detained for questioning amid further investigation into the accidents.
