Cuttack: Two persons sustained critical injuries in a violent group clash over collection of donation for Ganesh puja in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Tuesday.
According to sources, members of two puja committees came face to face for collection of donation at Nuasahi in Bidanasi of the city. As both groups insisted on collecting the ‘chanda’ (d0nation) from their area, an argument ensued.
Tension mounted as argument led to heated exchange of words and both groups physically attacked each other. As the fight escalated, some members of the two groups brought out knives and broken bottles and attacked each other.
In the violent clash that continued for almost half an hour creating panic in the area, two persons were injured. They were identified as Shyam Sundar Das and Bapina Jena.
On being informed, a team from Bidanasi police station went to the spot. On their arrival, both groups flee the area. The police rushed the two injured to SCB Medical College and Hospital in the city. Their condition was stated to be critical.
The police have registered a case and detained two persons in connection with the group clash.
