Jajpur: At least two persons were killed and over 15 others injured when a tourist bus from Kolkata dashed against a cement-laden truck in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Saturday.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place when the Puri-bound bus rammed into the truck from the rear at Kandhei Chhak under Barchana police limits in the wee hours.
The bus carrying over 50 people from Kolkata was proceeding to Puri when it lost balance and rammed into the truck. While two persons died on the spot, around 15 others sustained injuries. The deceased were stated to be the driver and helper of the bus.
The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Four of them were later shifted Cuttack hospital as their condition deteriorated.
On receiving information about the incident, police immediately rushed to the spot, stepped up rescue operation and initiated a probe into the incident.
Sources said the bus had caught fire after the crash and fire services personnel rushed to the spot after getting information and took quick steps to douse the flame.
