Rourkela: Two persons died and eight others were injured after the SUV in which they were travelling rammed into a divider and overturned on NH 143 near Dhan Nagar under Chandiposh police limits of Odisha’s Sundargarh district early on Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Tapan Dasmohapatra and Sarojini Dasmohapatra.
According to sources, the accident took place when 10 people were travelling in the SUV from Bhograi in Odisha’s Balasore district to Rourkela and the driver reportedly dozed off at the wheel.
The passengers were rescued by the locals in a critical state and rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital where two succumbed to the injuries. The other injured passengers were later shifted to a private hospital in Vedvyas.
Police reached the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem. A probe is underway.
