Jeypore: Two youths died in Odisha’s Koraput district when their car veered off the road and crashed into a roadside mango tree on Nandapur–Padua main road late on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Lab Khara of Golur village and Ananta Pangi of Khudub village.
According to sources, two friends had traveled to Jeypore
to purchase a pick-up van. While returning home after a stop at Semiliguda, the person at the wheels lost control of the car, possibly due to overspeeding, and crashed into a tree near the fire station under Nandapur police limits. The impact caused severe damage to the car, leaving both occupants trapped inside.
A team from Nandapur Fire Services, led by Assistant Station Officer Hemant Kumar Samal, arrived at the spot. The rescue operation saw the firefighters break open the windows and sections of the car. The duo was then rushed to Nandapur Community Health Centre in a fire brigade vehicle, but were declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
