Baripada: Two persons were killed when a truck laden with wooden logs fell 25 feet below a bridge over Subarnarekha canal near Jagannathkhunta Chhak on NH 18 in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj late on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as A Narayana (50), the driver, and K Chinarao (40), the helper. They belonged to Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.
According to sources, the truck en route to Nepal from Visakhapatnam crashed into a sidewall and then fell off the bridge. As there was no water in the river, the vehicle hit the stones killing the driver and helper. Locals and rushed to the spot on hearing a loud noise and found the driver and helper stuck inside the truck.
Bangiriposi police soon reached the spot and retrieved their bodies, which were then sent for postmortem. The truck has been seized and a probe has begun to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
