Sambalpur: Two youths were killed when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a speeding truck near Rairakhol on National Highway No. 55 in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Wednesday.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place while the two were returning home from a park in the evening. A speeding truck dashed against their bullet motorcycle at Podabalanda Road under Rairakhol NAC.
The Sambalpur-bound truck hit the Bullet motorcycle on the NH-55 near a restaurant. The duo died on the spot, sources said.
The deceased have been identified as Shuvendu Sahu and Shyamsundar Bhartia of Rairakhol.
Angry over the accident, locals staged a road blockade and demanded adequate compensation for the victims’ families.
After getting information about the incident, a team of police personnel reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters.
