2 Killed, Another Critical In Bomb Explosion In Odisha’s Chhatia

Bhubaneswar: Two persons died while another was critically injured in a bomb explosion at Chhatia under Barachana police limits in Odisha Jajpur district on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Ram Pingua and Mantu Patra. Nepali Murti, who sustained critical injuries, is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

According to source, the incident took place near the bypass road at around 4.30 pm when the trio was returning home on a motorcycle after finishing. The severity of the blast can be gauged from the fact that body of one of the victims was blow apart and lower half of another’s body was found several feet away from the torso.

“Three persons had come on a motorcycle. The explosion took place when two of them were standing near the vehicle and the third had gone to a nearby shop. The two died on the spot,” Barchana SDPO Laxmidhar Swain told mediapersons.

Confirming the deaths, Jajpur SP Yashpratap Shrimal, who visited the explosion site, said the cause of the explosion is being investigated. A scientific team has collected samples from the site, which will help determine the origin and nature of the blast, he added.
