Nayagarh: Two labourers were crushed to death under a heap of packed sacks at a rice mill in Odagaon area of Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Rameshwar Dihudi of Tirisinga area in Ganjam district and Pramod Maharana of Badamba area in Cuttack.
The mishap took place at Rohibanka when the two workers were checking the stockyard in the rice mill in the early hours and the loaded sacks fell on them, sources said.
The two sustained grievous injuries. They were rescued rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Odagaon where doctors declared them dead.
While the exact circumstances in which the sacks fell on them are yet to be ascertained, reports from the site indicated that the incident took place after a beam of the mill collapsed and fell on the sacks in the stockyard.
On being informed, family members of the deceased reached the hospital.
While police have launched an investigation into the incident, further details are awaited.
