Koraput: Two Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces inside a forest in Odisha’s Koraput district on Friday.
The gun-battle took place when security forces comprising personnel of the elite Special Operation Group (SOG) and district police were carrying out a combing operation in Malipadar forest under in Boipariguda block of the district.
According to reports, the security personnel had launched a combing operation following information about the presence of ultras in the forest.
As the red rebels opened fire when the combing was underway, the security forces retaliated and in the exchange of fire that ensued, two Maoists were gunned down, a senior police official reportedly said.
Search operation is still in progress in the area and further information is awaited. While some ultras were stated to have fled the scene, efforts are on to ascertain whether there are any arms and ammunition in the forest.
