Keonjhar: Two members of a picnic party were killed and seven others seriously injured as the van carrying them crashed into a roadside tree in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Thursday.
As per reports, 8 people had gone in the van on a picnic to Kalimati dam near Ghatagaon in the district in the morning. While they were returning in the afternoon, the driver lost control and the vehicle rammed into the tree near Ghatagaon College Chhak on Bahartipura-Nakajhari road.
While two persons died on the spot, seven others sustained serious injuries in the accident. The locals rescued the injured persons and admitted them in a nearby hospital. Later, they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Keonjhar town as their condition deteriorated.
On being informed, Ghatagaon police went to the accident spot and sent the two bodies for post-mortem. They also seized the vehicle and started investigation.
The deceased were identified as Abhimanyu Patra of Binajhari village and Samad Khan of Uparadiha village under Ghatagaon block of the district.
