Chennai: Two men from Odisha have been arrested at Tambaram, 24 km from Chennai, on charges of smuggling 101 kg of ganja.
They have been identified as Dhanurjay Khara (34) and Kamal Laichan Khila (24).
The duo was nabbed near Arasankazhani Erikarai by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) of Tambaram City Police on Wednesday following a surveillance at Perumbakkam based on a tip-off. Ganja and two mobile phones were seized from them.
The arrested, who worked as daily wage labourers in the city, confessed to purchasing ganja from Odisha to supply it to labourers and residents in and around Kannagi Nagar, Perumbakkam, and Pallikaranai areas during the interrogation. They were remanded to judicial custody after being produced in a court, The Hindu reported.
