Rayagada: Two minor girls were charred to death in a hut in a farm field in the district on Thursday.
According to sources, Maning Majhi of Lakris village under Kashipur block had erected a makeshift hut on his vegetable farm. His daughters 3-year-old Dibya and 4-year-old Kumari had gone to the hut for guarding the vegetable crop when its thatched roof caught fire.
On noticing the fire, Maning and villagers rushed to douse it. But, the entire hut was gutted and the two girls were charred to death.
On being informed, a team from Kashipur police station rushed to the village and seized the body for post-mortem. However, the exact cause of fire has not been ascertained. Further investigation is on.
