Malkangiri: In a tragic incident, two minor sisters died of drowning in a pond at Manga village under Podakonda panchayat in Malkangiri district on Saturday.
The deceased sisters have been identified as 8-year-old Rajeswari Padiami and 2-year-old Sivani Padiami.
According to sources, the mishap took place when their parents Prakash Padiami and Rame Padiami had gone for work in farmland. While the two sisters were playing nearby, they went to closer to the pond. They might have fallen into the pond and could not come out, said the sources.
Later, the villagers rescued the two minor girls from the pond and rushed them to a hospital in Malkangiri. But, doctors in the hospital declared them dead.
