Balasore: A two-month-old infant sustained critical burn injuries after accidentally falling into a burning fireplace at a village in Odisha’s Balasore district.
As per sources, the incident took place at Chalanti village under the jurisdiction of Jaleswar p
olice station in the district on Tuesday.
The family of Taran Hembram had lit a fire in a traditional hearth and sitting beside it to protect themselves from the severe cold when the mishap happened.
Taran’s wife was holding the infant close to the hearth when the baby accidentally slipped from her arms and fell into the burning hearth.
Family members immediately pulled the child out of the fire. However, the infant has reportedly sustained grievous burns by then.
The baby was initially rushed to Basta Hospital for treatment. Doctors referred the infant to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Balasore for as the condition was highly critical.
