Bhubaneswar: The Cyber Crime unit of Odisha Crime Branch (CB) has arrested two persons from Madhya Pradesh for their alleged involvement in two separate cases of digital arrest and investment fraud.
Sachin Kolan, a resident of Ujjain, was arrested in connection with a Rs 1.06-crore digital arrest fraud case in which some of his associates were nabbed a few months ago for allegedly extracting the amount from a senior scientist based out of Bhubaneswar. Out of the total duped amount, Rs 8.82 lakh was transferred to bank account of Kolan, CB sources said.
Sameer Ali (36), also from Ujjain, was arrested for allegedly duping a Cuttack-based businessman of Rs 2.5 crore in an online investment scam. A total of Rs 34,90,028 was credited to his bank account.
The businessman was lured by a WhatsApp group named Ram Investment Academy and was asked to open a privileged account with TECHSTARS PRO. The stocks they recommended showed substantial profits every day. He invested a total of Rs 2,58,60,000 between March 20 to April 20 with hope of earning more profit. In April last year, the group ceased operations and a person contacted him demanding a commission to withdraw his capital. The money trial helped CB team identify Sameer Ali and other accused persons. One more accused who was arrested earlier in this case from Kolkata is in judicial custody, the sources added.
