Berhampur: In another incident of bribery in MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Berhampur city, two staff nurses have admitted to have accepted the bribe from the relative of a pregnant woman.

According to sources, the woman of Purushottampur in Ganjam district was admitted to the hospital for delivery on Tuesday. She delivered a baby boy through caesarian section on Wednesday night. After the delivery, two nurses in operation theatre demanded bribe from the woman’s brother who gave them Rs 500.

Later, the man told the nursing officer in the hospital, who is a relative of him, about the bribe demanded by the nurses. The nursing officer informed nursing superintendent Purnima Nayak.

When Nayak asked the two nurses about the incident, they admitted to have taken the bribe. The nurses also submitted an apology letter and promised that they would not commit such act in future.

Speaking to media persons, superintendent of the hospital Prof Santosh Kumar Mishra said suitable action would be taken against the nurses after departmental investigation.

It may be noted that a security personnel of the obstetrics and gynaecology department of the hospital had also demanded bribe from the father of a pregnant woman a few days back. The incident was recorded in a video which had gone viral in social media.
