2 Odia Women Sign Up For Live-In Relationship

Kendrapara: A year after the decriminalization of homosexuality, two women in Odisha have signed up a legal agreement to officialise their live-in status.

Sabitri Parida (27) of Mahakalpada and Monalisa Nayak from Pattamundai in Kendrapara district came to the local court here seeking permission to live together. The agreement was drafted and executed in the court on Saturday.

According to advocate Asutosh Mohanty, who executed the agreement, the couple had been living together in Cuttack for a long time and their live-in relationship doesn’t violate any law.

While homosexuality is no longer a crime in the country, marriage between couples of the same gender is still illegal. The Supreme Court had scrapped Section 377 of the IPC on September 6, 2018, terming it ‘unconstitutional’.
