Bhubaneswar: Even as the world celebrated Snake Day on Sunday, two people died of snakebite in Odisha’s Balangir and Mayurbhanj districts.
According to sources, Danda dance artist Nakul Bariha of Putis Bahal village under Patnagarh block of Balangir district had not gone out of his house due to heavy rain. While he was sitting in a room, a snake bit him.
His family informed the local sarpanch about the incident. The sarpanch’s husband took Nakul to community health centre at Patnagarh. But Nakul succumbed during the treatment.
Later, a team from Patnagarh police station went to the CHC and sent the body for post-mortem. The villagers have demanded compensation from the government to Nakul’s family comprising his wife and two children as he was the only earning member.
