Nayagarh: Two persons were killed in separate nor’wester related incidents in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Tuesday.
In the first incident, 4 members of a family were going in an auto-rickshaw on Khandapada-Khalisahi road in the district when they were caught in the heavy wind due to nor’wester. The auto-rickshaw driver stopped the vehicle under a tree due to the thunderstorm and heavy rain. All the four persons were inside the vehicle.
Meanwhile, a big branch of the tree broke and fell on the auto-rickshaw. As the vehicle was crushed under the branch, a woman member of the family died on the spot while three others sustained critical injuries.
The deceased woman was identified as Rashmita Nayak of Harijansahi under Kiajhari panchayat in Khandapada. The injured persons were admitted to district headquarters hospital at Nayagarh.
In the second incident, an ice-cream vendor had taken shelter under a mango tree near Gania under Daspalla block due to the nor’wester. A branch of the tree snapped and fell on him due to heavy wind. He sustained injuries on head and started bleeding.
The locals with the help of Fire personnel rescued him from under the branch and rushed him to the community health centre (CHC) at Gania. But the doctors declared him brought dead. The deceased was identified as Naba Khatua of Madhabareni village under Khandapada police limits.
