Bhubaneswar: With a cold wave sweeping Odisha, the mercury dropped below 10 degree Celsius at two places in the state with G Udayagiri in Kandhamal and Similiguda in Koraput recording 7.2 degree Celsius and 9 degree Celsius respectively, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD0 informed on Tuesday.
As many as 21 places recorded a minimum temperature of 15 degree Celsius and below. Besides G Udayagiri and Similiguda, the mercury plummeted to 10.5 degree Celsius at Phulbani in Kandhamal, while Koraput, Daringbadi and Bhawanipatna recorded 11 degree Celsius each. The night temperature at Kirei in Sundargarh was recorded at 11.5 degree Celsius, followed by Chiplima in Sambalpur (12), Jharsuguda (12.6), Keonjhar (13), Bargarh (13), Hirakud in Sambalpur (13.3), Boudh (13.5), Ranital in Bhadrak (13.5), Sundargarh (14), Angul (14), Mahisapat in Dhenkanal (14.5), Nayagarh (14.5), Sonepur (14.6), Sambalpur (14.9) and Baripada (15).
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack saw the temperature drop to 16 degree Celsius and 16.4 degree Celsius respectively.
The MeT office attributed the fall in temperature across the state to dry and cold blowing from the northwest direction. The winter chill will continue with no likely change in the temperature for the next three to four days, it added.
