Baripada: Two poachers and five country-made guns, ammunition and other weapons seized from their possession in the core area of the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
As per information, the arrest was made by Forest department officials on Wednesday on the basis of pictures captured on a trap camera.
Sources said a trap camera inside the core area of the reserve forest had reportedly captured photographs of the armed poachers. Based on the captured picture, the Forest Department launched an operation and nabbed the poachers.
A case has been registered against the arrested poachers under the Wildlife Protection Act and Arms Act.
The accused were identified as Kiran Marandi and Karu Hansda, both residents of Bangiriposi area.
Along with the five country-made guns, a partially assembled firearm, gunpowder, and other hunting materials were also seized from them.
