Jajpur: In a case of love and betrayal using social media, police  rescued two sisters on Saturday and launched a manhunt for a youth who allegedly lured them on the promise of marriage in Sundureimuha area of Odisha’s Jajpur district.

While the main accused, identified as Ranjit Sahu (23), is reportedly absconding, three persons including his mother and two brothers have been detained by the police for questioning.

According to reports, the women, aged 23 and 19 years, hail from Khaprakhol in Balangir district and were working in a private firm in Tamil Nadu for the last two years.

The two were reportedly interacting with Ranjit of Abdalpur in Jajpur Sadar police limits on social media and for the last three months.

After winning their trust, Ranjit allegedly lured the two women by making false promise of marriage and asked them to come to Jajpur. Finding his promise quite lucrative, the two reached Jajpur last month. However, Ranjit kept them in a rented house and left it locked.

After being confined to the house for around a month,  the two sisters managed to escape and draw the attention of the villagers who informed the police about the incident.

A team of police personnel reached the spot and rescued the woman after which the mother and two brothers of the accused were detained. Efforts are on to trace the accused.
