Rourkela: In a tragic incident, two students died after they drowned in the Brahmani river at Rourkela in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Saturday.
According to sources, around six students had gone to take a bath in the Brahmani river at Vedavyas in the morning. While taking a bath, all of them slipped into deep water and were swept away.
While four of them were rescued by locals, two students remained untraced for a few hours. However, fire services personnel rescued them following a search operation.
Both were rescued in critical condition and rushed to hospital where doctors declared them dead.
The deceased were identified as Rajat Kumar Sahu and Samiran Sukumar Nayak. They were students of Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology and doing internship at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, sources said.
Police have started an investigation into the mishap and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
