Jajpur: In a frightening incident, two suspected human skeletons were found inside a newly-constructed overhead water tank of a drinking water project near a village in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Monday.
The skeletons were reportedly found in the tank built as part of a drinking water project on the outskirts of Nischinta village under Sadar Block of Jajpur, sources said.
The skeletons appear to be of humans, but it is yet to be confirmed and efforts are on to find some clues. The skeletons were recovered and sent to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Jajpur town for examination. Only after the report is received, it will be known whether the skeletons are of humans or of monkeys, police said.
As per preliminary information, the overhead tank located on the village outskirts is yet to be made functional. Two children, who accidentally climbed up the tank, spotted the skeletons. As the news spread, locals gathered at the site. The recovery of the skeletons has created sensation in the area.
On being informed, Jajpur SP Vinit Agrawal and the SDPO along with a police team visited the spot. The skeletons were recovered by the fire services personnel and sent to the DHH.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and further details are awaited.
