Puri: In a daring act, two men accused of theft escaped from the lockup of the Gop police station in Odisha’s Puri district by allegedly breaking a skylight in the building.
As per information, the two were earlier arrested in connection with a motorcycle theft and kept in the lockup when the incident took place.
Preliminary inquiry indicates that the suspects went to the lockup’s washroom and then broke the skylight to escape.
The old skylight, which was made of cement, had reportedly become weak and fragile.
The incident has raised serious questions about the security measures in place at the police station.
The exact time and manner in which the duo fled are being examined through CCTV footage and an internal inquiry.
Gop police have launched a manhunt and are conducting raids at several places as part of efforts to trace the fugitives.
