2-Time Olympic Medallist Sushil Kumar Still Absconding, Police Raids Underway

New Delhi: India’s only two-time individual Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar is still on the run.

Delhi Police is conducting raids on the outskirts of Delhi, Uttarakhand and Haryana to arrest Sushil, one of India’s most decorated wrestler.

Allegations have been made against Sushil that he was involved in a brawl earlier this week which led to the death of former junior national champion Sagar Rana.

“We have recorded statements of all the victims and they all have made allegations against Sushil Kumar. We have lodged an FIR of murder, abduction, criminal conspiracy and are conducting raids to nab Sushil Kumar,” Additional DCP (North-West district) Guriqbal Singh Sidhu said.

The victims have also alleged that Kumar and his associates abducted Sagar from his house in Model Town to teach him a lesson for bad mouthing him in front of other wrestlers, police said.

The 23-year-old Rana, who was beaten to death in a clash involving two groups on Tuesday, was part of the senior national camp. Several others were injured.

During investigation, police found a video of the incident from the mobile phone of one of the accused Prince Dalal, in which faces of all the attackers can be seen.

“Dalal was arrested from the spot and we seized his cell phone, two double barrel guns along with seven live cartridges of 12 bore from his possession,” police said.

Sushil, however, managed to give them the slip till date.
