Sundargarh: Two transgenders were killed after being run over by a speeding truck on the National Highway No. 143 near Rajamunda bypass in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Sunday.
The accident took place near Rajamunda bypass under the jurisdiction of Lahunipada police station in the district when the two transgenders were travelling on a two-wheeler, sources said.
As per reports, the two, identified as Ratha Kisan and Raja Patra, had an argument with a truck driver on Saturday night. The mishap took place when they were allegedly crushed to death by a speeding hyva driven by the same driver who had an argument with them.
Both of the transgenders reportedly died on the spot, while the driver of the hyva fled the spot after the accident. It is alleged that the truck driver deliberately rammed the two-wheeler.
On being informed, police visited the site and sent the bodies for postmortem. They have launched an investigation into the incident. Efforts are on to trace the truck driver.
