Balasore: Two trucks were gutted in a major fire that broke out following a collision between the vehicles on National Highway No. 60 near Basta in Odisha’s Balasore district.
As per information, both vehicles were completely destroyed following the collision on National Highway No. 60 late on Friday night.
Drivers of both vehicles were critically injured in the blaze, while traffic movement along the busy h
ighway was disrupted for several hours.
The incident triggered panic in the area as flames engulfed the trucks within minutes of the crash.
Sources said a truck loaded with coal crashed into a trailer that was parked on the road. Both vehicles caught fire under the impact of the collision and flames spread rapidly.
The drivers of both vehicles, who sustained grievous injuries in the mishap, were rescued by locals and highway patrol personnel and rushed to Basta Hospital for treatment. Their condition was stated to be critical.
Highway patrolling teams reached the spot following the crash and informed the Basta Fire Srvice team. Though the firefighters managed to douse the flames, both trucks were completely gutted by then.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained and a probe is underway.
