Dhenkanal: Two persons died after being attacked by a swarm of bees in a village in of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Monday.
According to sources, the incident took place in Kaduan village under Kadua panchayat in Kamakhyanagar block of the district. The victims were identified as Mayadhar Dehuri and Jhumar Sethi.
Speaking on the death of the two villagers, former sarpanch Somnath Sethi told the media that Mayadhar was stung by a swarm of bees while he was returning home from his farmland on Sunday.
The villagers admitted him in Kamskhyanagar Hospital in critical condition. Later, Mayadhar was shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH). But he succumbed while undergoing treatment on Monday.
Similarly, Jhumar attacked by the bees while he was returning home after taking a bath in the village pond. He was admitted in Kamakshyanagar Hospital where he succumbed.
“The bees were suspected to have come from a beehive near the panchayat office. Though the beehive was destroyed earlier, it was formed again. The block officials have been informed about the incident and we hope they will find a permanent solution to the bee problem,” Somnath said.
