Dhenkanal: Two persons have been killed in the attack of elephants in 24 hours in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
As per reports, Bipin Mohanty of Birikhunta village under Gondia police station of the district had gone out on some work on Saturday morning. While he was returning home in the afternoon, he came face to face with an elephant in a playground near Neulapoi village.
As Bipin started running in fear of the tusker, the latter gave him a chase. The elephant caught hold of Bipin and trampled him with its legs. He died on the spot.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area as the villagers blocked Neulapoin-Joranda road demanding immediate steps by the officials of Forest department to herd away the elephants moving in the nearby villages.
They alleged that the wild elephants were not only posing threat to human lives, but also damaging their standing crop in the farm land.
This was second human casualty due to elephant attack in the area. On Friday, Narayan Bhoi of Haradaberena village under the same police station was also trampled to death by an elephant.
